Three young European musicians formed this Franco-Catalan trio in New York in 2016, mixing contemporary jazz with a European sensibility and frenetic New York rhythms. In 2017 they recorded their first album, “Bulería Brooklyniana,” in Barcelona, a perfect window into their unique stylistic fusion and unbridled energy. After playing in the city of skyscrapers over the past year, they will bring their music to Europe this summer As a trio they have collaborated with musicians such as Lage Lund and Ari Hoenig, for example.
Albert Marqués is known for his creative, improvisational mix of contemporary, Latin and Flamenco jazz. While living in Paris he played with Pierre Perchaud and Rémi Vignolo, and was a member of Leon Parker’s minimalist quartet. Since moving to New York in 2011, he has performed at the Birdland, Blue Note, Stone, and the Fat Cat, as well as international clubs like Lombards, Jamboree and in festivals on both sides of the Atlantic including the legendary Montreal jazz festival. Marqués has recorded four albums as a leader, and has played as a sideman in Spain, France and the U.S. with musicians such as the O’Farrill family, Gilad Hekselman, Nir Felder and Ari Hoenig.
Manel Fortià is a bassist based in Barcelona and New York, with a long career as a performer and sideman in jazz and modern music. He has brought his expressive, thoughtful sound to projects with great musicians such as Bill McHenry, Ari Hoenig, Lage Lund , Eliot Zigmund, Billy Mintz, Dan Blake, Jacob Sacks, Marc Miralta and many others. He also has lead and co-lead his own projects, including an acclaimed duet with the pianist Marco Mezquida. Fortià has recorded almost 40 albums, and has played in some of the most important jazz festivals in Europe.
Raphael Pannier is a French drummer based in New York. He studied at Berklee in Boston and the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Great figures of American jazz such as Lee Ritenour, Bob James, Eric Lewis, Steve Wilson, Aaron Goldberg, Francois Moutin have welcomed Pannier’s irrepressible energy and creativity, playing at the most prestigious venues in the world: Carnegie Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, Heineken Jazz Festival. Pannier is an important part of the new generation of talented French musicians.
